When I accompanied Minister-President Winfried Kretschmann on a visit to a medium-sized company in Baden-Württemberg, I was tasked with the immediate delivery of the photos for publication in the press and online media. It made sense to go through the area in advance. This way I knew the best locations at the demonstrated machines and was able to instruct the employees beforehand how to be camera-ready. Spontaneously, the well-prepared plan then went quite differently, but this by no means made the preparatory work superfluous. And as a photographer, you should keep an eye on stumbling blocks – even when walking backwards in front of the group of visitors. A company that, apart from the obligatory friendliness, also clearly expresses their expectations to the politicians. A Minister-President who prefers to ask questions instead of simply following protocol. I liked that.
The selection and elaboration takes place on the spot, directly after the photograph is taken. It’s ideal if you can use a conference room with a power outlet, juice and coffee and the client brings a piece of the cake that the official delegation left behind.
